Description

In 1897, Helen Hollister published a collection of her favorite games as Parlor Games, for the Wise and Otherwise. It was a wonderful compendium of ways to entertain and delight friends of all ages — not to mention a unique window into victorian-era American culture. This digital edition of  101 Victorian Parlor Games is a revised and updated version of Helen Hollister’s work. We have broken the games into categories such as:

We have broken the games into categories such as:

  1. Games of Words and Letters
  2. Improvizations
  3. Games of Art
  4. Word Potpourri (similar to Mad Libs™)
  5. Quizzes and Guessing Games
  6. Games of Memory
  7. Games of Action
  8. Progressive Games
  9. BONUS: Forfeits (amusing penalties for those who have lost a game or broken the rules.)

Reproducible forms, templates, and materials list (for games that require any) are all included.

We have made as few alterations to the text as possible so as to preserve to Ms. Hollister’s Victorian voice. The original rules included many literary references that are now obscure, so updated references to well-known books (and films) have replaced them.  Our hope was to preserve the heart of these games while making it as quick and easy as possible for you to jump in and play.

This is a digital product. You may download the PDF immediately after purchase.
